Do We Have A Potential Future
Do We Have A Potential Future?Norman W Wilson, PhDAccording to some, we have a very limited future, if we have any at all. In today’s world we are constantly being told that Armageddon is close at hand; we are doomed. With sixteen species becoming extinct every day or over 21,000 yearly are we the next species to become extinct? Some estimates of species extension run as high as 27,000 per year. Are we without hope? The list of doomsday advocates is long. Add the issue of climate, that is global warming, deforestation, and ice cap meltdown and we can develop a strong case.German philosopher Nietzsche declared god dead. C. S. Lewis told us we will abolish ourselves through genetics. Alan Watts has stated we are fast becoming plastic, electrical impulses?artifacts of what we once were. Marshall McLuhan has pointed out that we are still trying to Is He Cheating do today’s jobs with yesterday’s tools. Alvin Toffler convinces us that we live in a state of ‘future shock.’ That we are afraid of any potential future. Theodore Roszak has claimed we are a sick society bent on annihilation. Eric Fromm has stated we are experiencing a disintegration of love. And finally, Kahlil Gibran prophases a future of riots, international war, abject poverty, and increased government control. Doesn’t this sound like 2010?Not a very nice picture is it? And because it is not, you may very well take on the attitude expressed in this statement: “What the hell! I’ll just do my own thing.” Others may ask, is there no one who paints a different picture of the future; one that is not filled with doom, a sense of hopelessness and world-wide destruction? My answer is an unqualified yes! And that will be discussed in my next article.
Emasculation of the Rodriguan People
By Alain Leveque Open letter to the Minister for Housing and Lands Port Louis Mauritius Sir, a few weeks ago, you were quoted in le Mauricien, as saying, that Autonomy was not Independence and that the central government still had ultimate control over Rodriguan lands. Sir, I hasten to add that Autonomy is one thing, but a handcuffed backwater local council, administered by puppets, is quite another. Media reports suggest that due to complaints received by your office, from Rodriguans, that you were prompted to investigate the local administration?s handling of Rodriguan public lands, with a view of centralizing it. Here, Sir, I smell a small rodent. You see, the passive people of Rodrigues, who down the ages, have had to run the whole horrifying gauntlet of slavery, colonization, exploitation, occupation, and now political domination, have no history of complaining. Signs of Cheating Solicited complaints, lodged by convenient phantoms and propagated by monopolised media to justify the repression of one group by another. Ayo baba, so often have I been exposed to this tactic, that I have almost become desensitized to it. It is not a recent addition to the tyrant?s bag of tricks. Despots, from Mussolini to Adolph Hitler, from Idi Amin to George Bush, have all used it at one time or another. It would be easier for a mongoose to pass through the eye of a needle, than it would for me to swallow this Taurus excretus. On the other hand, it would not be too difficult to imagine, a few malcontents with an axe to grind, being recruited from the ranks of disgruntled opposition supporters or party hacks. Either way, whatever the pretext; the further disempowerment of an occupied people, bespeaks of nothing less than political domination. Sir, there is little honour in that.
2008 Olympics Response From the Press and Media and the World
2008 Olympics Responses From the Press and Media and the World BEIJINGS Olympic opening extravaganza drew rave reviews yesterday from media around the world. “An eight became a perfect 10 in Beijing tonight”, the website of the Sydney Morning Herald declared. With eight the luckiest number according to Chinese, it was no coincidence the Games started on August 8th at 8 pm. ”The world may never witness a ceremony of the magnitude and ingenuity as that which opens the 2008 Olympics,” it said. London’s Evening Standard ran the headline: “China Magic”, and said the “most ambitious Olympics in history opens with the most spectacular show”. ”Marvellous. Too marvellous”, gushed Italy’s Leonardo Coen on the website of the Rome-based daily La Repubblica (www.repubblica.it). For some, the show drew atten Signs of Lying tion to Chinas strengths and the Olympic sports after a politically charged run-up to the Games. ”Friends who come from far, how happy we are to have you here,” was the message of greeting to the world, even the part of the world China has had harsh criticism from,” wrote Elio Girompini, a correspondent with Italy’s Corriere della Sera (www.corriere.it). “And in a stroke it made the latest polemics about Bushs words on human rights slide away.” To the Los Angeles Times, the show was not a welcoming ceremony for a resurgent China rejoining the world stage. Rather, it was “about China for at least the next 17 days becoming the world stage. The Chinese, accustomed to humiliation, real and perceived, by foreigners for centuries, are secure enough these days that they were willing, even eager, to share the spotlight.
China and Africa – Colonialism Without Responsibility
Since Sierra Leone’s eleven year civil war officially came to an end in 2002 it has been struggling to rebuild both a traumatised nation and to change perceptions of it as a land of drug crazed rebels, child soldiers and blood diamonds. The story of the small West African country is a familiar one, a tale of aid dependency, hollow promises and rampant corruption. Once the spotlight of the world’s media moved on to yet another scene of trouble, the ordinary people had to make the best of what they were left with. The last eight years has seen some progress, although in common with most of the rest of the continent a new style of imperialism has emerged on the scene, Sino-Imperialism ? a form of indirect colonialism – a colonialism without responsibility. Sino-Imperialism, whilst seemingly subtle and benign in nature, is seeing African nations or those who lead them Getting Over an Affair , sell off fishing rights, precious mineral resources, agricultural land, forests and in effect the birthright of the future generations. Such is the spending power of twentieth first century China that few of Africa’s leaders can resist what is dangled before them, but unlike European colonialism this time there will be no future lowering of flags, no independence or manumission ? Africa and vulnerable states such as Sierra Leone are being locked into a capricious embrace from which there would appear to be no escape. As the Chinese dragon has awoken in recent years it has worked assiduously to court the nations of the African continent. It has realised not only can it have access and influence in Africa more effectively than any other region on earth, but it has sought to fill the vacuum of influence left by the USA and Russia following the ending of the Cold War.

Politicians: traders of your interests to promote their own interests! Part IIAll are first class liars and professional ones at that, they never, never keep their promises, why should they, dressed up always in the costumes of the Devil. Devils themselves for they are out to build their fame and glory on your corps. Capitalist politicians and socialist ones, are all the same.Look at the Zulu carnivore Obama, or the Lilliputian Sakozy or the clown Berlusconi, or even the cockroach Putin or the rat Jintao, all are dressed up Lying Spouse in the Devil’s costume. Their only ambition, even purpose in life, is how to dominate their people; how to have the upper decision, with or without your consent. They do not know God for they are themselves gods. They do not apply God’s law for they have their own laws and apply it to you and the poor neglected people. But, it is not the fault of these ungrateful ignorant bastards, rather it is your fault and the fault of your fellow-human-citizens to accept these imbeciles and applaud for them and raise them above your head.

Nature Vs Nurture
How can it be that science values nature, isn’t that essentially the same as believing in fate? personally I believe it all comes down to nurture, but then the question is raised; how much of our nurture is a result of our nature? My line of thought may seem extremely wrong to some, but the fact is i’m just in denial, I refuse to accept that certain aspects in our current personalities were established the day we were conceieved. If one argues nature, that could be viewed as quite a racist view. Let me elaborate, the majority of North America firmly believes that Al qaeda are insane, whereas they obviously find our ways completely insane. If we believe in the Nature argument, doesn’t that also mean we think everyone from that geographic location is insane? We know they’re not, so obviously Nurture pl Is She Cheating ays an extremely large role. On the other hand, personalities would affect the jobs we take, certain jobs today were non existant when the first civillizations existed. Has our nature changed since then? I’d argue no, therefore I don’t believewe have been evolvingmentally, or if we have, not in terms of our nature, our instinct.Honestly, my view is uncertain, i don’t know enough about the science involved in this, i am admittedly no scientist, though I once got an A in chemistry, suck it Peter Agre. I find it so strange that science seems to be advocating fate in a sense, it’s getting far too religious to my liking. This debate honestly seems as unlikely to end as the debate for the existence of god and of course, more importantly, who stole the cookie from the cookie jar? Was it you?!Couldn’t be? …
